March Unemployment: 9.7%

The unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent, however, the broader U6 measure of under-employment – including those who have stopped looking for work and those settling for part-time work instead of full-time work – rose for the second straight month, from 16.8 percent to 16.9 percent.

When “discouraged” workers begin actively looking for work again, the unemployment rate is expected to rise.
